This is a nice little site in Lower Loader’s north end. Depending on the time of year, it’s got a wide strip of hardpacked sand in front of it that looks like a beach if you squint. The site itself isn’t that big, with a compact fire pit area set just back from the start of the strip. Despite this, it’s a good spot. The view from the fire pit is quite pleasant and there is room for a couple of tents. Also, it’s not Lower Loader Lake – Site 2, which is pretty much all you need to know if you’re choosing between the two.

Are there better sites nearby? Definitely not. Site 2, which is the only other site on the lake, gives dumps a bad name.

I wrote a book! Don’t Forget the TP: Lessons Learned the Hard Way in Algonquin Park is out now. If you like my trip reports I promise you are going to love this book. It’s a collection of the mistakes I’ve made, and what I’ve learned from them, in Algonquin’s backcountry. Check it out now!
