Closest Access Point: Basin Lake (Access Point # 19)
Distance To Access Point: 0 KM (You’re already there!)
Difficulty of Travel From Access Point: Easy.
Maintenance Level: Regular
Date of Visit: June, 2021
This site is in a small bay on Basin’s west shore. When I visited (June 2021) the campsite sign was gone, which meant I had a tough time finding it. When I did eventually track it down, I can’t say that it was worth the effort. It’s a small site, it’s about six inches from a road and I’m pretty sure the last time it was used was to commit a murder. Other than that, it’s fine.
Terrain: The site is up a small hill from the shoreline. In between the water and the site proper is a mess of overgrown green stuff. There’s a path, or at least the memory of a path, between the two. The shoreline area is pretty damp, making for a bit of a marshy stretch. This also makes for a bit of a bug factory. The mosquitoes on this site were the worst of all the ones I visited on basin. The site proper itself is actually decently level and clear, but it’s nothing special. The road I mentioned is up a small hill just to the west of the site.
Canoe Landing: There’s a small break in the shoreline brush where you can pull up. The ground here is mucky, so be prepared to possibly sink a bit as you haul the boat out. The underwater approach is fine, no obstacles that I can recall.

Fire Pit: Not so much a pit as a jumble of rocks. Needs a bit of TLC, but is located well in the middle of the site. If you were staying here, and again, I don’t know why you would, it’s not a bad spot to sit and look out at what view there is from this site.
Swimmability: In case I wasn’t clear already, this is a bit of a swampy area. I don’t like swimming in swampy areas. I don’t know many people who do. Leeches, I guess. So, if you’re a leech, this is the site for you. If you’re not, maybe take that dip somewhere else.
Tent Sites: There’s room for a few tents on this site. Back of the fire pit it’s actually pretty level and clear. There are a few scattered pine trees, so you’ve got a nice bed of needles to set up on.
Thunderbox: Couldn’t find it. Didn’t look all that hard. It’ll either be rotting or in great shape because no one has used it.
Accessories: It looks like someone has attempted to lash together a counter out of some thin logs. There’s one log “bench” beside the fire pit, and that’s about it.
Views: This is a fairly enclosed site. You’ve got a window to the bay from the fire pit, but are hemmed in everywhere else. Down at the water you’ve got a nice view south on Basin.

Notes: In case it wasn’t clear, this site is a distant 6th out of 6 on Basin as far as I’m concerned. The only reason to stay here is if … actually, there’s not reason to stay here.
