Site Location

This is a small-ish site adjacent to the portage down to Catfish Lake.  The site proper is tucked away from the water at the end of a short path. The site itself is very basic. The fire pit is a minimal circle of rocks and there aren’t really any accessories. There are a couple of log benches, but if you can tell the difference between those benches and any other random rotting log you might find in the woods you’re better at this than I am.

The tent pad space is decent. The ground is flat and the terrain is more or less clear of obstacles. The canoe landing is also pretty good. There are a few underwater rocks on the approach, but none so shallow that I remember worrying about hurting my boat on the load/unload. There’s a narrow harbour to tuck your bow in that provides some extra stability as you get in and out.

On the plus side, this is an enclosed site and likely would feel reasonably sheltered during bad weather. I’d guess it’s also a bit buggy during bug season, so you take the good with the bad.

Are there better sites nearby? We did not check out Luckless’ other site, so I can’t say for sure on this lake. There are definitely better sites on Catfish.
