This is a small site at the opening to Annie’s Bay. If I was a real estate agent I might call it cozy and rustic. If I’m me, which I am, I’d call it small and kind of beaten down.
To start with, this isn’t the easiest site to access. There’s a small break in the shoreline with room for one canoe to pull up. While the underwater approach was fine, there are a few rocks and obstacles to keep an eye out for.
There’s a small rise from the water up to the site proper. The fire pit is located towards the front of the site with a mostly obstructed view out to the water. That mostly obstructed view goes for the rest of the site as well. The shoreline growth is dense. This means that you’re reasonably well protected from a wind, but you’re going to feel a bit closed in when you’re here.
The terrain is level and easy to navigate. There’s room for a couple of tents on the site proper (maybe?) and the ground is nice and flat. I also have a picture of an overgrown spot just off the perimeter that looks kind of level that would work as an extra tent pad in a pinch. The thunderbox is down a short path out of the back of the site and, in keeping with the site’s theme, feels kind of overgrown.
Swimming here would not be at the top of my list. The shoreline is fine, but not all that accessible. You’re not going to be spending hours jumping in and out and basking in the sun. This is more of a utilitarian wash off the day’s grime kind of swim spot than it is a frolic fest.
Overall, I’d say that this site would work best in the early spring or late fall if I was solo or with a small group and looking for a spot to shelter from a cold wind. Otherwise, you can do better.
Are there better sites nearby? Yes. Literally every other site I checked out in the area was better. Site 8 was a personal favourite.
