This is a large, flat site with beachfront landing and plenty of room to spread out. The canoe landing is a wide, sandy beach with minimal underwater obstructions. You can easily land two or three boats here and not feel crowded. The terrain is very flat. There’s a minimal rise up to the site from the beach and the entire site is open and level. There is some tree cover along the shoreline on either side of the path to the beach, which should provide some protection from the elements when the wind is blowing onshore. That said, the site doesn’t feel enclosed, even if the views are semi-obstructed from some parts. The fire pit area is probably the site’s biggest weakness. There is a fire pit, but that’s about as much as I can say. There are no benches and the pit is just a jumble of rocks in the middle of the site. You’ll want to have a camp chair with you if you’re staying here and don’t feel like sitting on the ground. The thunderbox is in decent shape and down a short path behind the site. The swimming here would be very good. The beach goes out a decent distance and the underwater terrain is mostly sand.
Are there better sites nearby? Depends on what you’re looking for. If you’ve got a larger group and just want a place to hang out and swim, I think this site will do fine.
