Site Location

This is the easternmost site on Ryan Lake. It’s on a small point and feels kind of secluded, a rarity on a lake with as many campsites as Ryan. It’s also hands down the least appealing site I saw on Ryan (full disclosure, I didn’t visit 2, 3, or 11). Assuming those sites don’t also look like the poster sites for post plantocalypse camping, site 10 is the worst.

This is clearly a little used site. Most of the site area is overgrown, and you’ll want to watch your step to avoid tangling up in roots and ferns. The terrain is relatively level, but not flat. I didn’t see a ton of decent spots for a tent, although there was one nice patch near the water that would do for a smaller tent.

The fire pit is almost completely overgrown. It’s back of the water about fifty feet and is surrounded by stumps. The view out to the water is fine, but not great.

The canoe landing is a break in the rather dense growth along the shoreline. It’s not a great landing. While the underwater approach is clear of obstacles, getting from the canoe to the shore means pushing through scrub. Swimming here wouldn’t be great. There are plenty of lily pads fronting the site, which means swimming through those lily pads if you decide to take a dip.

Are there better sites nearby? Yes. Site 9 is just around the corner and is one of my favourites on Ryan. Sites 4 and 5 are decent as well.
