This is a small site, back in the woods from Ryan’s north shore. I liked this spot better than Site 7, but that’s about it as far as “this site is better than …” goes. The site is about 50 feet back from the shore. The area in between the site and the water is heavily treed and grown in. As a result, the view out from the site is partially obstructed at best, trending towards mostly obstructed. On the plus side, this means that the site is relatively sheltered.
From a terrain perspective, this is a relatively level spot. The site is easy to navigate and the ground is nice and flat. There’s room for a couple of tents, and a pretty nice fire pit set up. Actually, I was a bit surprised about the fire pit area. Most of the pit areas on Ryan seem pretty basic, but this one has a nice sized fire pit and quite a few log … benches (logs) to set up around it.
The view from the interior of the site isn’t great, but the view from down by the water is … well, it’s there. It’s nice. But you can only see it by standing right at water’s edge. Speaking of the water’s edge, the canoe landing isn’t great. While the underwater approach is fine, the shoreline is overgrown and the access from the water is basically a narrow break in the brush.
Overall, this site is fine, but unspectacular. Although, there must be something to it, because I just spent three paragraphs on a site I’m calling “Fine but unspectacular”. I dunno. Check it out for yourself I guess?
