Site Location

This is the only site on Shrew Lake, and it’s decent. Located at the top of a small hill, it’s got a smaller footprint but a nice fire pit area.  While there’s a window out to Shrew, it feels pretty enclosed.

There are two possible canoe landing spots on this site. The first is west facing and is the one you see when you’re coming from Big Red. It’s fine. It’s a narrow approach at the bottom of a steep-ish path, but it works. It is, however, not the best canoe landing. That one is south facing, just around the tip of the point. This is another narrow-ish path with another climb, but the path isn’t so narrow, the climb isn’t so steep and the underwater approach is decent.

There’s room for a couple of tents on this site, at least, and a nice fire pit setup. The benches are solid, and there’s a very handy table (or, there was a very handy table when we were there). The site runs along the top of the hill, with a decent grade on all sides. It’s fairly protected, which is another way of saying enclosed.

Are there better sites nearby? Nope. This is the only site on Shrew. And it’s not bad!
