This is a small site attached to the p280 in between the Shah Lake portage and Shippagew Lake. In fact, the portage trail leads directly into it (before turning sharply and heading out of it), which means that if you’re staying here you are likely to have visitors at some point.
Apart from being a place to stop if you’ve had a hard day, the site doesn’t have a ton going for it. It’s small, dim and separated from the water by fairly thick growth along the shoreline. On the plus side, there is a fairly decent tent pad and a working thunderbox, but apart from that … meh. The terrain is relatively flat I guess! (Also, as this site is mid portage you’re either going to be carrying your canoe to the site with you or leaving it out of sight at one of the ends of the portage).
Are there better sites nearby? There aren’t all that many sites nearby. The closest site upriver is at Little Trout Creek which is about 4.7 KM away as the crow flies. Thing is, if you know anything about the Tim you know that it does not run straight, so those 4.7 kilometers could take hours. Site 2 of the Pine River sites is about a kilometer downriver and I’d probably pick it over this one.
