This is a point site in Dickson’s south end. It’s a good little spot, with lots of room and not one but two fire pit areas! This is the last site before you enter the narrows over to Cisco Bay. It’s south facing, with relatively full shoreline coverage. That said, it does not feel enclosed. The view out to Dickson looking west from the fire pit area is quite good, as is the view towards Cisco bay from the other side of the point.
This is a flat site, but not without its share of roots and rocks poking up from the ground. There are a few decent tent pad areas, and the pole like pines sprinkled around the site make for good tarp/bug tent/hammock anchors.
The fire pit area has a decent view out to the water, while at the same time being a little protected from any oncoming wind. The pit itself is basically a jumble of rocks heaped in the middle of the site, but, honestly, isn’t that all any fire pit is?
The best canoe landing is on the west side. It’s an interesting approach. There’s a large log across the shoreline, which is the most attractive spot to pull up your canoe and unload. Be careful though, the log, while wide, can be slippery.
As far as swimming goes, this spot is fine, but not awesome. Underwater are a number of larger and slippery rocks. Not scratch the bottom of your boat kinds of rocks, but certainly slip while you’re trying to walk out for a swim types of rocks.
Overall, this is a decent spot. Good for a medium sized group and nicely located at the bottom of Dickson.
Are there better sites nearby? This is a pretty good one. I was only able to check out the site on Racoon Island in Cisco Bay, and comparatively, this one is much better.
