Site Location

This is a large site that is booked through Farm Lake but seems to more accurately be on the Opeongo River out the west end of Farm. It’s a nice spot. There’s loads of useable room and it’s convenient to the access point. The site proper is mostly pine needle covered ground and mostly level. The site is dotted with pines (which probably explains the pine needles) and is somewhat closed off from the nearby river. The view west from the fire pit is probably the least obstructed view, but even that has some trees in the way. This is a bonus from a privacy perspective. This site is at the very start of a popular stretch up to Booth Lake. There are trips coming and going at all times of day and, unlike Site 6 which is this site’s closest neighbour, you’re not going to feel totally exposed while staying here.

The site itself is pretty basic. The fire pit has a decent view out to the water, but isn’t anything to write home about. The fire pit area is basically just one log bench and a jumble of rocks. Reasonably sheltered though!

There’s loads of flat ground for tents. You could host a festival here, provided you keep your festival to the Park’s three tents max rule. The terrain is level and easy to navigate, and there are plenty of trees dotting the site for hanging tarps and hammocks.

The waterfront is fine, not spectacular. The canoe landing is best coming from the east and it’s big enough for one boat to fit easily. The underwater approach is good, without any significant obstructions to bounce off. The swimming wouldn’t be my favourite. The underwater terrain is kind of mucky and there are loads of lily pads.

Are there better sites nearby? The closest site, site 6, is not better. The Kitty Lake Ranger Cabin, which is just beside site 6, is much better.
