This review is going to look different from most of my campsite reviews, because honestly, there isn’t that much campsite to review here. This is a site that doubles as the start of the P2880 from Gibson down to the Nipissing. This is very much an “in case of emergency break glass” site. You stay here if you have to, or maybe if you really want an early start on the portage. The site area is a small clearing directly on the side of the portage. We were there in early spring, and it looked like we were probably the second visitors to the site. The first visitor was some kind of mini windstorm that had knocked a bunch of trees down directly across the site area, meaning an already small site footprint was buried under Mother Nature’s version of Pick Up Sticks. While there’s a decent amount of level ground nearby, and the canoe landing on Gibson is wide and easily accessible, that’s all because this is also a portage. You wouldn’t be likely to pitch your tent on most of that flat ground, as you’d be blocking the portage for the most part. Nice view of Gibson though!
