Site Location

This is the better of the two sites on Godda Lake. It’s got a large footprint, a nice kitchen and fire pit area and plenty of room to spread out.

The site sits on a point on Godda’s west shore. It rises from the water in a gradual slope. Not enough that you feel like you’re scaling the side of a cliff, or even a particularly challenging ramp, but it does have a slant to it. Despite the slant, there is plenty of level ground for tents and the fire pit area. The site can easily sleep three tents worth of people, and the fire pit area is well set up with a very handy counter nearby.

There’s a nice spot on the western site of the point to pull up your canoe. The underwater approach is free of obstructions and the terrain is sandy (this also doubles as a great spot for frog and minnow hunting for kids). The swimming here is decent, the walk out is gradual and there aren’t many shoreline weeds to get tangled up in.

The view south from the fire pit is nice, while still being somewhat sheltered by a denser shoreline to the east. The fire pit area had one bench that I remember, and those counters I mentioned a minute ago.

Probably the biggest negative of this site was the thunderbox. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a nice box. It’s well away from the site and looks relatively new. In fact, it’s so new that the Park forgot to dig the hole beneath it. Which means it’s filling up fast, and you might get gross leakage from beneath it while you’re sitting there enjoying the view.

Thunderbox aside (can you ever really put the thunderbox aside though?) this is a great spot.

Are there better sites nearby? Nope. I’d take this over Site 1
