Site Location

This is a decent sized site on Kingscote’s western shore. The shoreline is relatively free of obstructions. There are a few large rocks along the water’s edge, but nothing too difficult to get by if you are loading/unloading. The underwater approach is nice and clear, with a sandy bottom and lots of space to pull up to the site.

The site itself is fine. It’s got enough level ground for a few tents and a picnic bench! The fire pit is located towards the south end of the site with a slightly obstructed view out to the lake.

The thunderbox is a long way back of the site, but thanks to some pretty sparse vegetation back there it’s very visible from the site. At least, it was very visible when I was there in April. It’s possible there’s some more undergrowth that fills in later in the season, but it didn’t look like there was much.

This site is at the north end of Kingscote’s southern basin. There was a decent wind when we were there, but the site itself didn’t seem too breezy. That said, if the wind is coming from the right direction I would imagine this site gets chilly.

Are there better sites nearby? Yes. Site 7, about a kilometer and a half north on Kingscote is a much better option. Other than that, this one is as good as any of the others I saw on the western shore.
