Site Location

This was my favourite of the sites I visited (or paddled past) on Kingscote. It’s located at the top of the lake, a stone’s through from the portage over to Big Rock. If you’re planning on staying on Kingscote, particularly if you’re coming from that direction, check this one out first.

The site is located on a shelf of wide rock. This does mean it’s somewhat exposed, and would likely get chilly in an early season or late season wind. However, that exposure also means you have great sightlines to the lake from pretty much everywhere. The fire pit is nicely located in the middle of the site, and there’s room for a couple of tents at least.

The swimming here looks like it would be good as well. You could either slip in from the rock slope in front of the fire pit, or wander over to the mini underwater beach at the site’s west edge. This is basically just a flattening of that rock shelf leading into a sandy bottom, but it looks like a great spot to wade in. While you can pull your canoe up to the front of the site, this little mini-beach area also has a tailor made canoe slip in front of it. No matter how you approach it, the underwater terrain is decently clear of obstructions.

Are there better sites nearby? Nope. Take this one.
