This is a compact point site with nice views across Little Dickson and a decent fire pit area. The site sits on a small point in Little Dickson’s west end. It’s the first site you see coming from Dickson Lake, and it’s a great option if you’ve got a smaller group or are solo.
The site is slightly elevated about the lake. There are canoe landings on both sides of the point, and from each one there’s a small rise up to the fire pit area and tent pads. Nothing too challenging, but it’s there. The canoe landing facing the Cisco Bay portage is decent, with reasonable shoreline access and no significant underwater obstructions. I didn’t use the landing on the other side, but it also looked pretty good.
The terrain, once you’re up to the fire pit area, is relatively flat without too many obstacles. That said, the site is dotted with pine trees, so you don’t have a lot of wide open spaces. That’s a feature, not a bug. The trees provide a nice amount of shade without obstructing the view out to the water in any noticeable way. There were at least a couple of decent tent pads, and the fire pit area is quite nice. The surrounding benches are sturdy and the view out to the water is fairly clear (it’s not all that far from the water, for that matter).
Because it’s a point site there is a decent amount of cross breeze that cuts through on a windy day. Not enough to keep the bugs down in mid-May (as I discovered) but certainly enough that I’d be wondering how cool it might get on a rainy/windy shoulder season trip.
Other than that? I liked this site. Would definitely consider it if I were to stay on Little Dickson.
Are there better sites nearby? I didn’t stop at Sites 2 or 3, so to my knowledge, no.
