This site doubles as the portage over to the Lower Crow River and, in my opinion, is best used as a portage over to the Lower Crow River. If you do decide to stay here be ready for some through traffic. The portage runs through the middle of the site, which is ideal if you’re craving some random chit chat but less than ideal if you don’t want to have people cutting through your site all day.

However, in case it’s the only site that’s available on Mallic, here’s what you can expect.

This is a relatively small site.  While the clearing around the portage is big enough, most of that slopes down to the water (as it is a portage, the canoe landing is great!). The fire pit and tent pads are near the top of the clearing. The fire pit is actually kind of cool, with a large flat rock on the lake side offering some protection from an onshore breeze. There were no benches that I saw, so bring a camp chair.

There’s room for one tent for sure, maybe two. More than that and you’re really pushing your luck. The terrain is easy enough to navigate but, as I mentioned above, it’s not the flattest site. On the plus side, the view out to Mallic is very nice!

Are there better sites nearby? Yes. Site 3.
