This is a nice little (almost) point site on McKaskill’s east side. I say it’s an almost point site because while it’s definitely on a point, and very clearly surrounded on both sides, it’s not quite at the tip of the point. So, if you need your point sites to be three-water-sided or bust, this isn’t for you. If, however, you’re a free thinking rebel who doesn’t care if your point has a tip, this is a good spot.
The terrain is … it’s not exactly uneven, but it’s not entirely flat, either. Can I call it wavy? There are some gentle rises and falls if I remember correctly. It’s not a huge site, but there’s room for a couple of tents and the fire pit is very nicely set up. The benches around it are in good condition, and you’ve got a nice (if somewhat obstructed) view out to McKaskill.
The canoe landing is on the small side. There’s a break in the shoreline growth that’s big enough for one canoe. It’s a nice approach, no significant underwater obstacles that I recall, but if you have more than one boat you’re going to be taking turns loading and unloading. Swimming here would be fine. The underwater terrain is a mix of sand and silt and McKaskill is a nice lake to swim in (IMHO).
Are there better sites nearby? The McKaskill Ranger Cabin is just across the lake, and it’s well worth the splurge if it’s free. That said, I’d happily stay on this site if the cabin wasn’t an option.
