This is a great little point site near the middle of Round Island. Its rocky tip is one of the first things you notice when you put your boat down coming from the Sundassa portage, and it’s as good as it looks from that first glance.

The front of the site is exposed rock with a tuft of something short and green at the very end. It rises from the water to the site proper at a decent angle, meaning there’s a chance you could twist an ankle coming and going if you’re not paying attention. The best canoe landing is on the east side of the point. There’s a small but relatively decent ledge you can climb out on, and the underwater approach is deep and easy to navigate. You can pull the canoe up here and leave it half in half out of the water if you want, but I wouldn’t leave it like that for long. The angled slope means you can’t pull the canoe too far up the rock, and a good breeze would probably push it right back in.

The site seems small, but has a surprising amount of usable space. The fire pit area dominates the top of the rocky part, with a great view out to the water and a nice semi-circular bench set up.  Behind the rocky part is some narrow but level terrain that’s a mix of pine needles and dirt. There are three tent spots in a row leading away from the fire pit, one of which was big enough for our bug tent and two of which would have worked for our regular tent. There’s a fourth tent spot nearby, making this site surprisingly accommodating to groups with multiple tents.

The swimming is decent. I love me a rocky point, and the water access is fine. The underwater terrain is a jumble of large rocks. Swimming shoes would probably help. They’d definitely help on the rocks by the water. I was walking barefoot and stepped on a very small fish bone that went straight through the bottom of my foot. Not ideal.

Overall, I liked this site. It’s my favourite on Round Island. Great views too!

Are there better sites nearby? Nope. This is the one you want on Round Island.
