Skuce Lake – Site 2

This is an average site on Skuce’s north shore. It’s not bad enough that you’re going to regret staying here, but it’s not good enough that you’re going to be excited about it. Case in point: we stayed here, but we only settled on it after checking it out, deciding to see if Site 3 to the west was better, then coming back when we discovered that site 3 is definitely not better.

The terrain is uneven, but not terribly so. There’s enough flat ground at the back of the site for a couple of tents. Also out the back of the site is a low laying area that looks like it could get soggy, and when we were there was covered with deadfall. The biggest climb on the site is up to the thunderbox, which is perched at the top of the hill and is supported by two log poles to keep it level (which means you get to spend your visit to the box wondering if the entire thing is going to flip backwards down the hill at some point).

Skuce is a nice enough lake. The swimming looked decent (it was May and raining when we were there, so no swimming was done). The shoreline is a mix of dirt and rock and access to the water is easy. I don’t recall any significant underwater obstacles, and the best landing area was good enough for loading and unloading.
