This is a solidly average site. It’s got a bigger footprint than its immediate neighbour to the north, but isn’t as well set up as Site 7 at the top of the lake. The fire pit is nicely located with a good view out to Kingscote and a decent bench set up. There is room for a couple of tents and the terrain is easy enough to navigate. The canoe landing was a bit tricky, but we were dealing with a wind that was funneling right down the narrows at the exact moment we tried to land. The underwater approach, at least, is free of obstacles and easy to navigate. The underwater terrain is mostly sand and silt and looks like it would be decent for wading in for a swim. This site would do for a night, but wouldn’t be a spot I’d want to set up for an extended stay.
Are there better sites nearby? Yes. Site 7 in the north end is my pick on Kingscote.
