This is a relatively small site set on a hill. I’d love it as a solo site. Would be less thrilled if I was trying to jam a large group onto it. The site sits on a small point and, as you can see from the headline picture, is just a tad rocky. Despite the rocks, the underwater approach is relatively scratch free and the canoe landing is decent. We pulled up sideways to the shoreline and that seemed to be the best way to get in and out.
The tent pad is up top. There were two spots that would work for tents, both of which would be better for smaller footprint shelters. Despite the slope of the site, the tent pads are nice and level.
The fire pit area is set near the tip of the point. It’s got a great view west and, when I was there, was built up nicely to protect against an onshore wind. There was a small bushcraft … I dunno, I want to say railing? near the pit. Other than that I don’t recall there being many accessories on this site.
The shoreline is intermittent … I want to say red pine. Whatever it is, it’s the perfect amount to provide some privacy without disrupting the view. You can see out to the water from pretty much everywhere on the site, and the western view in particular is quite nice.
Are there better sites nearby? Of the three sites I saw on Whiskey Jack (also checked out site 3 & 5), this would be my preferred one. That said, I do know that Robinson Site 2, just one lake to the east, is probably one of my top five sites in the Park. So do with that what you will.
