This is a solid site. Nicely tucked away on Louisa’s north shore, with a great rock frontage and a decent amount of useable space towards the back. Is there a quasi-swampy area just to the west? Sure. But that just means you’ll want to have the bug spray if you stay here in June. But, honestly, you’ll want bug spray for any site in June, so it’s not a big deal.

Terrain: This is a relatively flat site. Front is a wide slab of gently sloping rock, back is packed dirt and not much else.

Canoe Landing: There wasn’t a tailor made canoe slip that I saw, but you can pull a canoe up anywhere along that rock front.  It’s easy enough to wedge yourself sideways and getting in and out without getting wet was manageable. Underwater approach was relatively free of rocks and other obstacles.

Fire Pit: The fire pit is located where the rock turns into dirt. It’s got a nice view out to the lake and is well situated on the site. It would be a bit exposed in the event of a high wind, but not so much that you wouldn’t be able to get a fire going. The fire pit itself wasn’t in the best shape when I was there, but that can easily be fixed with some TLC.

Tent Sites: Room for a couple of medium-sized tents. The tent pads were mostly level and decently sheltered.

Swimmability: This would be a nice site to swim from. The underwater terrain slopes gradually away and the site has a nice southern exposure, meaning sun for most of the day.

Accessories: None, really. There’s a reason I’m using a distant shot of the site for this section. There was an old chain bolted into the rock? Otherwise, I got nothing for you.

Views: Beautiful views south and west across Louisa. There isn’t much in the way of tree coverage between you and the water from anywhere on the site proper and the views from most of the site are unobstructed.

Notes: I liked this site. On any other lake it would probably be near the top of my list, on Louisa it’s a bit further down just because there are so many great spots.
